July 2023 Lunch Program

Join us for our July Lunch Program on the Elk Grove Zoo Conceptual Plan, featuring Jeff Werner, Public Works Director at the City of Elk Grove, and Sheetal Bhatt, Vice President of Kimley-Horn. The Sacramento Zoological Society and the City of Elk Grove are designing a New Zoo with an entirely new level of experience that will forever redefine zoological parks. This Zoo will feature countless moments of pure imaginative discovery, wonder, enchantment, and truly meaningful encounters with Earth’s incredible wildlife.

On November 17, 2022, the Society and the City released the Conceptual Plan for the proposed Zoo. Next steps in the process include developing a schematic design, a financing plan, and completing an environmental impact review (EIR). These steps are expected to take at least a year to complete. Formal consideration of the new zoo project by the Elk Grove City Council, and any approvals that would move the project into construction, could occur as soon as late 2023.

The new zoo would be approximately 65 acres and would likely be built in multiple phases over several years. The shared goal is to build a world-class zoo and cultural attraction for the entire region. The relocation of the Sacramento Zoo to Elk Grove could significantly benefit the care of the animals and improve the guest experience. New and exciting opportunities for the community to get involved with the project are expected to come in 2023.

• All in-person WTS Member no-shows will be charged the full in-person non-member price unless a cancellation notice is provided 48 hours in advance.
• A WTS Member may not have a non-member take their place.
